Efficiency during therapy sessions is a MUST for me working in the schools. With short therapy sessions, I'm always looking for ways to work on more than one target during a session. Many of my students who have difficulty producing consonant blends also have difficulty segmenting consonant blends heard in a word (a task that my Kindergartners and 1st graders are required to do). Enter the Phoneme Segmentation Activity categorized by articulation target!
Print, laminate (for durability), and cut out strips or leave as a whole page. Provide the student with the target word found on page 3 of this download (if needed), and have the student segment the sounds that are heard in the word while moving his/her finger across the boxes. (Additional option: Students can move tokens/chips/cars/smiley faces into the boxes as each sound is said.) After the student has segmented the word, have him/her say the word using accurate speech sound production. The student can then practice saying the word by itself, putting the word in a phrase, or generating a sentence using that word, and repeat it "X" number of times.
