Thank you so much for purchasing this quick little intervention set. It was designed to engage the students in a brief session of phoneme segmentation. Directions for use are included.
*picture strip cards from pack that are laminated and cut out (you will cut 5 strips across on each page you print with each strip having one picture and 4 blocks to its right).
How to use:
Say: We’re going to play a game with all the sounds in the words. (Show the child a picture card and say each sound in the word. Put one bingo chip each on a square for each sound you say.) Ask the child how many sounds (number of bingo chips) the word had. Then start handing the student(s) you are working with one picture strip at a time and having them lie one bingo chip down for each sound of the word. (Some words will have too many spaces – in this case, the spaces will be left blank.) Make sure they correctly sound out the word before asking them how many sounds were in the word.
This could even be done as a game in a small group.
Continue doing this intensely with the remaining picture strip cards for about 5 minutes or so.
Use again daily if possible until the student has a firm understanding of phoneme segmentation.
There are 30 strips in all!
This is a skill needed for the Phonological Awareness Skill Test (P.A.S.T) – Skill #13
