Phoneme segmentation is an important part of a child's literacy development. This phonological awareness skill is mastered when a student is able to hear a spoken word and say each sound individually. This will help students in all areas of literacy development, including writing.
In this game, students roll a die or number cube and pick one of the pictures. After they segment the sounds, they place their playing piece over the picture of the word they segmented.
This game was originally developed to assist my students in meeting benchmarks as determined by the DIBELS measurements.
