* UPDATE: This product is now available along with other great resources for morphology instruction in The Ultimate Morphology Bundle: Prefixes, Suffixes, Latin Roots, and More

This product is an ideal precursor of instruction with morphology (roots, prefixes, suffixes). First, you may use these materials to help students better understand the function of phonemes in spoken words. Then, transition your instruction to teach about morphemes with materials that not only explain the meaning of a morpheme, but also help students distinguish between bound and free morphemes. Last, students can apply learning about phonemes and morphemes to distinguish between them in isolated examples as well as within words.

Within this product, you will find:
(1) Visual reference posters to use for instruction and to support student memory. Color and black-and-white versions are included.
(2) Hands-on phoneme and morpheme reading and sorting exercises to help build fluency with phonemes and morphemes
(3) Optional activities for multiple purposes with the materials given so that you may easily differentiate instruction as needed
(4) Student recording pages with corresponding answer keys for student self-assessment and/or teacher use
(5) A teacher guide for a listening activity to build phonemic awareness in words with 2, 3, and 4 phonemes.

Materials may be used explicitly for small group instructional purposes and/or as independent learning center activities. Following instruction with these materials, students should be better prepared to transition learning toward more in-depth morphological concepts (prefixes, suffixes, and roots).

Need additional materials to support student learning with morphemes? Check out my product Morpheme Monsters: Resources for Learning about Prefixes and Suffixes
