Phonemic Awareness Word Lists and Activities

How do I use these cards?

Simply print the sample cards and place them on a ring, and you are ready to start. Place the rings of cards around your classroom for easy access. They are perfect for those times when you have a few minutes to fill as well as for directed instruction at the guided reading table or during shared reading for a warm-up.

Why are these the word lists I need?

They will make your instruction EASIER! Determine the skill you want to work on and grab that ring and you are equipped with a ready to use a list of words to use for that skill.

NOT SURE WHERE TO START? Grab a FREE phonemic awareness screener to assess your kids: HERE.

But wait, what about other adults who support my students? Can they use them?

YES!!! All instructions are included right on the cards, which makes them perfect for volunteers and parents. Each skill has enough words included on the cards so that it may be used with a whole class without giving students the same words. Skills such as Sound Segmenting and Sound Blending have many cards (many with a theme) to provide lots of practice without reusing word lists.

But my students need independent practice too! What can I use to give them that practice?

I have also created several hands-on centers to give students the opportunity for independent practice with some of these skills. Click the links below to find the centers.
