"What Word Doesn't Belong?" is a whole group phonemic awareness activity. Simple, no prep slides to display for phonemic awareness practice specifically with CVC words.

What are these slides?

These are phonemic awareness slides that teachers can use to help their students develop phonemic awareness skills. There are 50 easy to display slides. All you need is a computer and projector. Students will not need any supplies to participate.

Why should I use these slides?

There is a direct correlation between phonemic awareness and successful readers. Listening and recognizing patterns in sounds is a building block of becoming a reader and a writer. These slides in particular are a fun and quick way to engage students in phonemic awareness. They also help develop vocabulary and build schema for students by associating new words with pictures.

How should I use these slides?

Students are given 3 pictures on a slide. Teacher tells the students what words are displayed. The students take think time to process "Which Word Doesn't Belong?"

This is an open-ended discussion and although it focuses on the sounds represented in the pictures, students may take it further by discussing the actual pictures, but that is up to the teacher.

When can I use these slides?

They can be used anytime of the day as a quick warm-up. One slide a day will do!
