This package comes with the BOARD GAME and two sets of cards graded in difficulty. The cards are split into a beginning and an ending. Children practise blending sounds in a fun game format and develop their ability to discriminate and isolate sounds. The object of the game is to be the first to make four REAL words.
WORD BANKS are provided in each set and you can use them to make the game independent, having players check their REAL WORDS as they play. This eliminates players using non-words (but they'll still be practising blending). I have laminated the WORD BANK CARDS because they get a lot of use.
While the game is fun for everyone, it specifically targets those students who are still developing phonemic awareness, a critical element of reading success. I use it often in an intervention setting, modelling the sounds and blends as students need them. You could use a more capable student to do the same thing.
My focus is foundation skills in literacy and numeracy and my games target children's natural ability to want to play.
