Phonemic Awareness & Phonics
Diphthongs oi, oy, and oo Practice #2
This literacy product is made for first and second grade students having difficulty reading the diphthongs within words. It can be used in small groups within a regular classroom or in any pull out groups such as resource, RTI, ESL. While it is designed to be used in small group intervention, the pages could be used as worksheets by following the directions at the top of the page. I did not put a name line so students would need to remember to write their name at the top. The last 4 pages could be used as cut and paste pages too!
Easy Preparation: Download and laminate for durability if you intend to reuse. Don’t laminate the Title page. Paste it on a manila envelope and keep the contents inside. You’ll need to cut apart the word cards. Place word cards, according to diphthong pattern, in 4 small baggies. All the other pages are used as boards or Write and Wipe Mats. Students will need a dry erase marker and eraser. The plastic sleeves would work in place of laminating if you prefer. Also if you want, this product can be used as worksheets by following the directions on the pages. The Match Game pages could be used as Cut and Paste Pages.
Directions: Write and Wipe Boards-Follow the directions as written at the top of the board. There are 4 Phonemic Awareness Boards. Students are to circle and count each phoneme and then write the
# of phonemes inside the small box. There are 8 Phonics Boards. Students are to write the missing vowel diphthongs to complete the picture words. Then the students are to completely label the pictures by segmenting all the phonemes and writing the letters.
Matching Game Mats-There are 4 different Mats where students read the word cards and match under the pictures. Easy Sorts are when students match 6 word cards to 6 pictures on 1 mat. Harder Sorts are when the teacher mixes up 12, 18,or 24 word cards and the student must work up to four mats at one time.
