Entice the child’s curiosity for language with early successes using these 3-part phonetic picture word cards, which are ideal for a Montessori classroom. This set includes 60 control cards (picture and label together), 60 mute cards (pictures only), 60 label cards, and 60 mute cards with lines for writing. I recommend that with beginning emergent readers, the cards should be broken down into short vowel sound sets: 16 /a/ words, 11 /e/ words, 9 /i/ words, 9 /o/ words, and 15 /u/ words. These sets will also work well as a Language/Reading Center activity in a traditional classroom. I’ve included a few different lesson presentations for differentiated teaching to accommodate the varied levels of early readers.
