PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This product includes word lists for various phonics patterns. The phonics skills follow a sequential order that builds upon previously learned skills, starting with basic vowels and consonants. This is NOT a phonics program, simple just word lists to be used as a resource. You can use the order of phonics skills as a guide to what skills to introduce to your class or just use the word lists for various word work activities. For example, place the word list in a center for students to use letter tiles, magnets, etc to build the words. Use the word list as an assessment-can the child read all the words on the word list after studying the skill? Use the word list as a resource for words to use for spelling homework. Use the word list to introduce a phonics skill while also discussing vocabulary (read the word, now what does it mean? Use it in a sentence). The following skills are covered:

• short vowel a, consonants: t, m, s, b, c, f
• Consonants: r, h, n, j, l, p
• Consonants: g, d, v
• Short vowel i, consonant: w
• K, -ck (comes at the end of a word after a short vowel)
• Consonants: qu, x, y, z
• short vowel o
• The FSZL (fizzle) rule:
• -ng, -nk: these are “glued sounds” when combined with a vowel
• The “H” brothers: ch, wh, th, sh
• short vowel e
• Beginning l-blends (sl, bl, fl, cl, gl, pl)
• Beginning r-blends (tr, cr, br, fr, dr, gr, pr, thr, shr)
• Beginning s-blends (sk, sc, st, sm, sp, sw, squ)
• Short vowel u
• 2 syllable words with closed syllabes
• Consonant clusters (str, spr, scr, spl)
• Ending blends (-st, -sk, -sp, -nt, -nd, -mp, -ld, -lk, -lp, -lt, -ft, -pt, -ct)
• Ending –tch, ending suffixes –s and -es
• R-Control vowels (ar, er, or, ir, ur)
• Open Syllables (one and two syllable words)
• Suffix -ed
• Final magic “e”
• Suffix –ing
• Y as a vowel
• Vowel Teams-ie
• Vowel teams-ai, ay
• Vowel Teams-oa, ow, oe
• Vowel Teams-ee, ey, ea
• Ending –dge
• Diphthong oo
• Diphthong oi, oy
• Diphthong ou, ow
