Many people cannot read a dictionary. We start teaching about letter-sounds in Kindergarten and Grade 1 but it seems to take a long time for these conventions to stick in the mind. The lists on page 4 and 5 are not boxed; the student can draw a box around the letter and image as he studies them. This booklet covers Sight Words as well as Short Vowel words. I have tried to make it as interesting as possible to make repetition acceptable, as well as to help the child visualize those hard-to-see words like "to". Words in sentences start with green and end with red, and the vowels are blue. The student is not expected to read the instructions and rules, but he can learn to sound out the large example words. This is The Code.
