Phonics-22 Word and 22 Sentence Fluency Practice Pages
This is an easy and quick on going phonics Easter themed activity to do in your daily small group instruction. This literacy phonics product, covers a wide range of abilities from kindergarten to second grade. It is an “Easter Extravaganza” of word fun with adorable spring graphics.
It is decodable word drills for one student or for many at one time. The product has little preparation. There are 42 pages with each page focusing on specific sound-spelling relationships. There are 6 lines of 5-6 words on each one, with the phonics spelling in bold print. Following the word page is a sentence page, with 6 different sentences, using the same phonics spelling skill. The phonics skills are presented in a logical order and are stepping stones for becoming a fluent decoder-reader.
There is so much fun and joy in the graphics. Each page is different and adorable. It is fun drill because the pictures paint a thousand words! That is what makes this product stand out!
This product can be used in a word center or used in small group instruction. It can be used as separate pages or bound in a booklet. In my opinion, the beauty of this product is that one can get a lot of specific word reading done in a short amount of time. And the teacher will know which student needs extra help on a specific phonics skill.
I use this with six students at a time. I make 7 copies of each page and bound them into booklets using a binder machine. If stapling you might want to make more than one booklet. I print the Table of Contents page so that I have one for each student. I write their names on individual pages and then this page becomes an informal assessment page. I make notes as students are reading in my small group instruction groups. Later I can look back and see who had trouble with a specific sound-spelling and allow them more practice. It also allows me to pair students together that have the same hole that needs filling. LOL!
This is what I do when introducing a new skill-page. I read the title and explain the sound spelling relationship. I read, using my reading finger to point to each word, and the students echo read after me. They are pointing in their booklets on the line under the row of words. I swoop with my reading finger at the end of each line and return to the beginning of each line until all 6 lines have been read. Then a student will become the lead reader and will read one line and the others are the echo. Each student will get a chance to be the lead reader on a line since there are six lines. After reading the words we move to the matching sentence page. We do it the same way. There are many other ways to do this. Pairing students into partners is fun and very effective. This is a quick daily phonics activity to do in addition to reading your weekly words and stories.
I have listed the phonics skills covered by page numbers so you can see what is included. One word page and one sentence page is provided for each different skill.
