I created these activities for students because they need their attention drawn to the middle sound. They have done many activities on the initial sound, and some on the final sound, but they paid no attention to the middle. They simply guessed, using the first and last letters.
These activities involve reading words and "non-words"; identifying real words; choosing the word to match an image; completing a word in dotted font, by tracing and writing in the vowel; and reading a short, simple sentence and completing the same word again.
Reading the "non-words" seems to help them to understand. They also realise how closely alike some words are and how important the vowel is.
The pages can be assembled into a small book, at the beginning, or you can add pages as needed.
You can also copy the sheets or half sheets and students can paste the work into their notebooks.
I also have other CVC activities that you may like to add.
