These are great pages to work on the concept of vowel teams that sound the same but look different. Use these seperately as worksheets or put them together as a book.
Ambiguous Vowel teams covered are:
OW vs OU
AW vs AU
EW vs UE
OI vs OY
AR vs ARE vs AIR
OR vs ORE vs OUR
ER vs IR vs UR
I created these to replace our phonics book. I have created different units to cover the major areas of phonics. I use the settings on our copy machine and 11x17 paper to turn these into books for the kids to keep in their desks to use daily.
We use the Words Their Way Spelling Inventory to group our kids based on ability.
Teaching Phonics following the Words their Way model has been extremely beneficial for our 1st graders. Kids are moving on to the next area based on their spelling needs. With a book for each of the major areas our 1st graders are becoming excellent spellers.
See my other Phonics Books - Short Vowel Word Families, Short Vowels, Blends and Diagraphs, Long Vowels using Magic e, Long Vowel Teams, Ambiguous Spelling Patterns, Inflectional Endings, and watch for Contractions, and Y as a vowel coming soon.
All clipart is from the Art Explosion Cd which can be purchased at a local office supply store.
Happy Phonics! Hope your kids become as great of spellers as ours have!
