My kiddos are working on initial blends and differentiating between the sounds with two letter blends. I created this as a quick assessment for the middle of my unit to assess how they doing and what areas they need to continue to practice in. You could use this as a pre-assessment to see what they already know, a mid-assessment like I am, or a post-assessment to a mini-unit. You could also do this together with a small group to have them practice blends. If I did that, I would have my kids identify the blends and then extend the activity and have the students use plastic or foam letters to spell out the whole word.
In this "quick quiz," students are given two pictures. They are to identify the beginning blends for each picture and write the two letters that make up the blends in the blank below the picture. Then they need to compare the blends and determine if they match or not.
