Board Your Rocket ship and Blast Off into the world of Blends.
Write the room looking for pictures that have Beginning Blends. Remember…the words need to be spelled correctly so listen for those sounds.
This resource is a fun and interactive way to reinforce beginning blends
28 picture cards that can be cut out and laminated. 23 cards contain pictures with beginning blends and 5 are simply pictures to allow children to think critically about what sounds they hear as they are working on this skill.
A sheet to write and spell correctly the words that contain beginning blends All the pictures can be tapped out and can somewhat be easily be deciphered. The real purpose is the blend so you can simply decide to look for the blend written correctly and not worry about the rest of the word…your decision.
3 sheets for children to work on independently where they search for words that have beginning blends and color the words.
If you don’t want to write the room, then the cards can be used as a station in which children look at the pictures and decide if they have beginning blends and then write the correct spelling of the words on the sheet provided underlining the blends that are heard.
The teacher can tack the pictures around the room and children can walk around the room during a station or center time and write the room looking for the pictures in which they hear beginning blends and then write the words for the pictures on the sheet.
The printables can be used as an intervention for those students who need more support with this skill.
The sheets can be used for English Language Learners to identify the pictures and then listen for the beginning blends. The cards can also be used for speech and language for correct pronunciation of beginning blends which can be a difficult skill for some kiddos.
If you teach Wilson Fundations this aligns with the blend unit and is also aligned with Common Core Standards for word work.
An extra surprise…If you want, you can run off the rocket ship on the last page and glue it to a foam visor or sentence strip and the kiddos can wear it as they BLAST OFF in search of blends!
