What is this?
A card game to help my students at their current phonics level. This series reinforces the skills necessary to begin mastering the letter name phonics level. The features covered in this series are:

1. Short Vowels (ack, an, at, en, et, ip, it, og, op, ug, ut,)
2. Blends + Digraphs (bl, ch, cl, fl, gr, sh, sp, st, th, wh)
3. Affricates (ch, d, dr, hard + soft g, h, j, t, tr)
4. Preconsonantal Nasals (ch, ft, ld, lf, mp, nd, ng, nk, nt, sh, th)

How To Play Can You Spell?

1. Shuffle deck and deal 2-4 players 3 cards each. Place deck in the middle.

2. Going clockwise each player takes a turn by drawing a card and asking the person to their left if they can spell the word on the card they just drew (spellers only get one try). If they get it correct, they get the card. If they get it wrong, the player who drew the card gets to keep it. Ex. “Can you spell deal?”

3. If a player is dealt or draws a “Spell any card you have!” card, he or she can make the person to their left spell any word from their hand (one of the original 3 they started with or any new cards they collected. After the card is used, the player places the card on the table, to show that it has been used

4. Players continue taking turns until all the cards are used. The player with the most cards wins!
