Time and time again, research has shown that in order for students to "lock in" new concepts, they must partake in hands-on learning. I am thrilled to share with you the next resource in the “hands-on” series: The Hands-On Phonics Bundle. This phonics bundle includes a collection of rigorous, enriching, and fun activities for every single phonics sound-spelling. These activities will help build confident and lifelong readers!

What is included in this bundle?

In this download, you'll find over 2000+ pages of phonics materials that can be used in the following parts of your day: whole group and small group instruction, warm up time, Word Work, RTI, Early Finishers Tub, independent practice, and even homework.

What sound-spellings are included in this phonics bundle?

Short Vowel Word Families

What activities are included in this bundle?

Match It Up! (500 cards) - This is a fun and interactive game that students can play as a whole group, in a small group, with a partner, or by themselves. The best part about this game is that your enrichment, on grade-level, and struggling students can all play the game (even at the same time, if you wish). Included in this game are clue cards (which includes a picture clue of the word and a written clue of the word) and word paw cards. Students must look at the picture and/or read the clue on the card and then find the matching word paw card. If students think they’ve found a match, they can check to see if they have found the correct pair by looking in the corner of the clue card for the word written in a tiny font that can only be seen with a magnifying glass. What kid wouldn’t love this game?

Differentiated Phonics Writing Pages (100+ pages) - One of my students’ absolute favorite activities is writing a silly story! These sheets encourage students to write a phonics silly story using words with the focus sound-spelling. The sheets include a word and picture bank at the top, along with a self-checking checkbox section at the bottom. Included are: lined and unlined sheets

“Master It” Phonics Books (over 100 books) - Each book focuses on a different sound-spelling. Students can practice reading the sentences in each phonics book until they reach mastery. Each sentence includes the focus sound-spelling, but the sentences do not create a story. The sole purpose of these books is to practice the sound-spelling in short, easy-to-understand sentences.

Phonics Posters (over 100 posters) - These posters are a wonderful tool to have on display as you introduce each phonics sound-spelling to your class. You can display these on your whiteboard or place them in a binder to have on hand during small group instruction.

Phonics Clip-Its (over 400 cards) - Students must match the picture to the correct sound-spelling with a clip.

Phonics Word Mats (a collection of many word mats) - These phonics word mats can be used with ANY word. You can have students use the picture cards or word cards provided for you. These are an extremely versatile tool to have on hand.

Search and Find (100 Search and Find Worksheets) - Students must read the focus sound-spelling and then find words that have that sound-spelling in the jumble of words. The fonts and text sizes are all different to help familiarize students with different fonts found in texts.

Let’s Read and Practice (100+ Independent Practice Sheets) - Each of these sheets requires students to look at the sound-spelling, circle only the real words with that sound-spelling, trace two words and draw matching pictures, read short sentences and circle the focus sound-spelling in those sentences, and write sentences using words with the focus sound-spelling.

Phonics Word Cards (500+ plain cards, 500+ picture cards, and 500+ strips are included) - Perfect for you to have on hand at Word Work, small group, or one-on-one! These cards can be used with many of the activities found in this packet, including the Phonics Word Mats. These cards can be used for sorting, writing, matching, and more. The possibilities are endless.

I Can Build It! (500+ mats are included) - These phonics mats are great to have at your Word Work area. Students can use playdough, pipe cleaners, or pom-poms to fill each word. The focus sound-spelling is highlighted in gray. I suggest having your students use two different colors when filling each word to help them recognize the focus sound-spelling.

I Can Write Sentences (500+ sentence pages) - Students will write the phonics word to match the picture. Then, they must use the word in a complete sentence. The lines are extra-large to give students plenty of space to write.

Trace, Build, and Write (500+ books) - Students receive a sound-spelling book. They must trace, build, and write words with that sound-spelling.

I’m a Word Master! (over 100 sheets) - There are two versions included for differentiation purposes.

Version 1: Students must make as many real words as they can

Version 2: Students make words and must sort them based on whether they are real words or nonsense words

Assessment Strips/Bookmarks and Assessment Sheets - These quick assessment sheets and strips make assessing students a breeze. Students can assess each other OR you can assess students one-on-one. I provided you with an editable version of this so you can choose what words you want to include!
