This first set of Phonics Fast Reads is designed to help students recognize and identify letters. Seven levels of task cards are included in this bundle. At each level, students are introduced to four new letters. As students master the letter names, they move up a level and four new letters are given. A spiral review is given at the end of each level. These letter task cards are designed to be used in conjunction with the letter sound cards so that students begin to blend and segment words right away. Uppercase and lowercase letters are included.
Who should use these Fast Reads?
These task cards are perfect for the preschool or kindergarten child who is learning letter names and sounds. They can be used as letters are introduced or as extra practice with the struggling child.
I created these Fast Reads as a way to improve fluency. According the the National Reading Panel, a few things are critical of good reading instruction.

How do I use these cards in my classroom?
-Use them with individual students.
-Use them as a warm up in guided reading groups.
-Send them home with parents as a tool to practice at home.
-These cards are perfect for parent volunteers. It takes all of the guess work out of instruction.
How do I prepare the Fast Reads?
I like to print on cardstock and combine the cards with a metal ring at the top corner. If you are printing them so that individual students can take them home, you can print on white paper and staple the side.
My Experience – Why I created these task cards…
I teach first grade and all of my students know their letter names and sounds. BUT, my middle child is in kindergarten. And, if I’m being honest, I did not prepare her for kindergarten like I should have. After our parent teacher conference I was told that she needed some extra practice with identifying her letters and sounds at home. I KNEW this…. BUT, I also needed this wake up call. So... I created this resource for her. I designed it to be systematic and sequential so that my husband could do it with her without my help. AND I’m happy to say... it took her two weeks to learn all of her uppercase and lowercase letters and sounds. A little nudge, some practice, a dab of encouragement, and a feeling of success was all she needed!
