1. K and C Anchor Chart
Introduce the K & C spelling rule with a catchy phrase. Display this anchor chart in your room, or send copies home with students so that this concept can be practiced at home.
2. Four in a Row Board Game
This game is played like Connect 4. One student (or teacher) is the "Reader." He or she will read a word card and students look for the K or C word on their game board. This is a great way to practice reading and spelling. This game includes 8 different game board versions. Newly added ink-saving version is included as well.
3. Nonsense Word Sort
Students will sort cards according to Real Words or Nonsense Words. All words begin with K or C, but students must differentiate between proper or improper spelling based on the rule. A practice worksheet is also included to reinforce this concept. An ink-saving version is included.
4. Pick a Letter
In this activity, students read a card that contains a word with a missing beginning letter. Students must use the K & C rule to look at the vowel to determine if the word begins with the letter K or C. A recording sheet is included with this activity. An ink saving version is included.
