Just when we thought we knew who was fishing with the letter c; that we find out in the story “Quiet Q Speaks Up”, there is, alas, another fishing buddy! The letter q is quiet but she has to get brave to find her unique sound. With the help of her husband Unselfish U, Quiet Q also finds two letters to help her make her sound.
This is one of many phonics stories written to help students master the letter sounds and rules of our sometimes confusing English language. The phonics stories are appropriate for the primary grades and for students with dyslexia. If you want to teach our sounds and rules in an engaging way, these stories are for you.
If you are a dyslexia therapist, you may note that the stories follow a similar sequence to the Dallas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children’s Take Flight Curriculum. The Take Flight Curriculum is a comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia.
The stories are in a PowerPoint format. My suggestion is to read the stories with expression to the students as they view each screen. Stop and discuss the rule or situation. Complete your mini introduction or review lesson with the printable worksheet to practice the skill.
