The long ‘i’ mini-cards give your students practice reading letter combinations (i, i_e, igh, ie, and y) that make the long ‘i’ sound. Each card has a word, an illustration and a sentence using the word. I have my sets cut into four, photocopied onto manila tag, single-hole punched, and held together with a single ring. I read through the set in my guided reading groups when I teach my students the long ‘i’ combinations, and then I have the sets hanging on the wall so that my students can quickly grab a set, and read them with a buddy, by themselves, during independent reading, or at center time, etc. These cards are a quick and easy way to have your students practice the different letters combinations that create the long ‘i’ sound.
The mini cards are organized as follows:
(Each 8 ½ x 11 copy makes 4 – 4.25 x 5.5 sets
- 10 ‘i’ says ī words and mini-cards
- 10 ‘i_e’ says ī words and mini-cards
- 10 ‘igh’ says ī words and mini-cards
- 10 ‘ie’ says ī words and mini-cards
- 10 ‘y’ says ī words and mini-cards
The Long ‘o’, Long ‘e’, Long ‘u’, and Long ‘a’ mini-reading cards can also be purchased separately, or the five sets can be purchased together at my store, in a bundle, for a reduced price if you wish to have them all. Bossy'r' mini-reading cards are also available.
