What educators are saying

I used these for RTI time with some very low readers. I liked that they're able to take these home and keep practicing,
This source is great! My students loved it and it helped drive home the phonics skills needed to decode words!

Description

This resource contains over 50 phonics mini books for your growing readers! These no prep, one page focused and explicit mini books are perfect for phonics practice and phonics lessons, reading intervention, take-home books, book bins and independent reading time, and more! As you progress through your phonics lessons and instruction this year, students can use the mini books to practice their decoding and fluency skills.

This resource was created to help students learn how to decode words and practice the phonics skills you are teaching in your classroom! Each one-page mini book focuses on a specific phonics skill. Each book consists of a word list, a list of sentences, and a very short passage or story. Simply print, fold, and start reading! Students will read the words, read the sentences, and read the story in each book.

What grade level is this resource designed for?

As reading teachers, we often have readers of many levels that will enter our classrooms each year. While a kindergarten teacher may primarily be focusing on short vowels, they may have kindergarten readers who are ready to decode sneaky e words during the second half of the year. First and second grade teachers will find this bundle extremely valuable due to the wide range of phonics skills and patterns that are included for below, on-grade level, and above grade level readers. By having mini books for such a wide range of phonics skills, you will be able to differentiate and cater to each readers' individual and small group needs!

"Miss DeCarbo, how will YOU be using these mini books with your students?"

Great question! I created these mini books for my students to use after I teach a phonics skill in my classroom. I LOVE that the books are one page and no-prep! My students will keep the mini books in their book bins for decoding practice. They will also take their mini books home to practice with their families. Each short focused book is the perfect way for families to see the phonics pattern we are working on and practice reading words that focus on that pattern with their children.

How should I prep these mini books?

Simply print and fold! I teach my students how to fold their own mini books at the beginning of the school year. You can print these booklets on colored paper OR on white paper so that students can color, circle, or highlight the phonics pattern before or as they read! There are SO many ways to use these booklets!

These mini books provide practice, reteaching, review, and additional exposure to the phonics pattern you are working on. These mini books will help you as you provide systematic and explicit decoding practice during your school year, which aligns to the science of reading research! I hope you enjoy this phonics resource!
