Kindergarten Phonics Supplement
Letters (b, e, f, h, r)
This is the 3rd pack of my Reading Wonders Phonics Supplements Packs. It includes 18 phonics activities, 25 worksheets, and 1 game to supplement the McGraw-Hill Reading Wonders Kindergarten Series. The 5 letters included in this pack are b, e, f, h, & r. The previous 10 letters from this series are used with segmenting and blending words.
Blending - Picture Word Match – 29 Picture Cards & 33 Word Cards
Words: cob, hot, hop, red, hip, cab, bat, fin, fat, hat, bad, pet, hit, bed, rat, ram, rob, ham, sob, rod, rib, bin, fan, bib, ten, rot, hen, net, fed
Place the decodable words and the color picture cards in a pocket chart or put magnets on the back of them. The children will blend the words to read them. They will find the picture that shows the word. Also work with other decodable words that don’t have pictures. (set, bet, met, fit)
Segmenting – 29 Cards
Use the decodable color picture cards for segmenting. The children spell the words with magnetic letters, letter tiles, or reading rod cubes. I use these in literacy stations.
Beginning Sound Sort
There are 30 color pictures that begin with b, 8 that begin with e, 21 that begin with f, 26 that begin with h, and 24 that begin with r. There is a sorting mat for each letter. I have also included the mats with the letter left off so that you can write the letter in to be wiped off to use for future letters. I use this activity in literacy stations.
Ending Sound Sort
There are 16 color pictures that end with b, 9 that end with f, and 35 that end with r. There is a sorting mat for each letter. I have also included the mats with the letter left off so that you can write the letter in to be wiped off to use with future letters. I use this activity in literacy stations.
Does it end with b or d?
The children will color the pictures, cut them out, and glue them on the sorting mat.
Medial Sound Sort (a, e, I, & o)
The children color the pictures, cut them out, and glue them onto the sorting mat. I have included 2 different sets of sorting pictures.
What’s the word? Blending (black line) There are 3 different blending sheets.
Children will blend the word, find the picture that shows the word, color it, cut it out, and glue it in the box above the word.
Spell Me! - Segmenting (black line) Use the 3 different sets of pictures included for the blending activity. 2 different sets of pictures.
The children will color 9 pictures, cut, and glue them in a box on the recording sheet. They will segment the word to spell it on the line below. There are 3 sets of pictures so that they can do this activity 3 times or so that everyone won’t have the same pictures.
Letter Card Activities
Letter Identification - Teacher can flash these cards for the children to give the letter name and sound.
Beginning Sound Sort – Place the letter cards in a pocket chart. The children will place the picture cards next to the letter/sound they begin with.
Ending Sound Sort – Place the letter cards in a pocket chart. The children will place the picture cards next to the letter/sound they end with.
Capital/Lowercase Match – The children can match the letters in a pocket chart or each have a set to match on their own.
Letter /Sound Identification Game – Place the letter cards in the pocket chart. Hide a picture card behind one of the letters. Have the children guess where the card is by naming the letter, or giving the sound, or both.
Capital Letter/Lowercase Letter Sort – Children will sort the letters on the sorting mat provided.
Segmenting - Spell That Word! Segmenting (letters b, e, f, h, r, d, c, n, I, o, a, p, m, s, & t) There are 2 different sheets.
Children will segment the word and spell it under the picture.

What Does the Fox Say?
This is a game to help children decode/blend words. There are 47 words using the letters b, e, f, h, r, and the first 10 letters taught in Reading Wonders.
The children will take turns drawing cards. If they can decode the word they keep it, if they can’t they discard it. If a special card is drawn, they do as it says.
Take 1 card from everyone.
Take 2 cards. (from the deck)
Give me all your cards to eat! (to the discard pile)
Chickens! Yum! Give a card to everyone!
What does the fox say? Children will all sing “Ding, ding, ding, etc.” (They know what to sing.) The child draws 3 additional cards from the deck.
The child with the most words after all are drawn is the winner.
