Great phonics practice using a silly original poem. This foldable is great for older students, ELL's or struggling students. It is a little less primary looking. Great fun format! Can be used for morning work, centers, small groups, homework, etc. It helps students with phonics, fluency, using context clues, and reading! Kids love using highlighters with these but they could also underline or circle the vowel patterns. This is easy and no muss!
Read: An original silly poem using phonics vowel patterns -au -aw
"Once I Saw a Macaw"
Highlight and Write: Students highlight au and aw patterns in poem and list words.
Word Sort: Use words from poem and fun fold activities and sort into vowel patterns
Highlight: highlight vowel patterns in multisyllabic words
Context Clues: Use context clues to figure out word meanings of words with vowel patterns
I work with older elementary students and ELL's who need more phonics practice but everything I find is really primary looking. I made these to look a little more "older" however I think younger kids will like these too! Struggling readers also need motivating text and this poem is fun and silly!
Easy to make: Copy front to back and let your kids fold into thirds. I created these in black and white for ease. Color ink gets so pricey! Great price!!
