These phonics practice pages are a colorful and engaging way to practice phonics skills with students during whole group instruction.
I use the highlight tool to highlight the weekly phonics pattern and any other patterns that are being taught that week. I let my students choose one color for the phonics skill (ex: short u) and a different color for the other pattern we are learning (ex: -ing). *This works well as a management strategy for who gets to choose the colors.
I guide my students in reading the words and sentences. The first read is a 'cold' read and we stretch/sound out the words. The second read is a 'warm' read and we read them quickly and fluently.
There are two pages per week. One for practice on Day 1 (or Monday). The other is for practice on Day 2 (or Wednesday).
Once we have practiced these pages as a whole group on Monday, I introduce them to my students to practice phonics skills on their own (or in a group) during literacy centers. It is super interactive and they love it! They get to chose their own colors and highlight the patterns themselves. It makes decoding fun!
THESE ARE EDITABLE!! Don’t like the background color or want to incorporate other spelling patterns? You can edit these templates quickly and easily! Five pages of directions on how to change the background color, locked and unlocked text, the font, size and color of the text and how to group and lock text are all included with this product.
