Product Description
This is Part 2 of Phonics Strategies for Struggling 3rd and 4th Graders. This 375-page product is a progressive phonics program designed for mentoring 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who are significantly behind their reading grade level and have poor phonics and decoding skills.

Phonics Strategies for Struggling 3rd and 4th Graders examines phonetic building blocks (phonograms/chunks, prefixes, suffixes, syllable divisions, phonics and spelling rules, 3-letter consonant blends, etc.) to supply students with the tools they need to successfully decode unknown words and become independent readers. Part 2 specifically works on equipping students with skills to decode long-vowel and diphthong-vowel sounds, and advanced sounds and letter combinations – such as less common prefixes and suffixes and advanced word endings (ture, tious, cious, tial, cien, cient, etc.).

Part 2 of Phonics Strategies for Struggling 3rd and 4th Graders emphasizes Vvcc chunks, Vce chunks, four-letter diphthong-vowel phonograms, adding suffixes to words ending in Silent E and silent-letter phonograms. Activities require just a few minutes so that a 25-minute session includes a variety of reading, writing and hands-on activities while reviewing many phonics and spelling concepts.

Phonics Strategies contains fifty-four pages of Nonsense Word Challenge Sheets combining word families with prefixes, suffixes and less commonly used 2 and 3-letter consonant combinations (squoachative, semiphroist). Using nonsense words is the quickest way for older poor readers to absorb phonics concepts and learn decoding skills.

Highlights from the 375-page Phonics Strategies for 3rd and 4th Graders Part 2 include:

*72 Word Family sheets (Vvc/Vvcc, Vce and Diphthong-Vowel phonograms)
*45 pages of hands-on activities (plurals, Vce chunks, ge/ve/ce/ze chunks, flipbooks, word tiles)
*35 Spelling worksheets (doubling consonants when adding suffixes, adding suffixes to words ending in Silent E; adding suffixes to words ending in “y”)
