Here is a great packet to help your kids tackle the "OR" sound! As in
door or more!

Inside****
Book- "We're off to see the Great OR!"
"OR" recording sheet that goes along with story.
Discussion page about the gene of fantasy
discussion page on students favorite fantasy books
OR word sort ruby slipper pieces with recording sheet.

Laminate book pages and bind for years of use!
Cut out ruby slippers and laminate.

You can use this packet in a couple of ways. Either as a whole group
activity or center.



1. Before reading the story go over what fantasy is and ask your
students what their favorite fantasy books are ( record findings)

You can project the color copies on your smart board or make black
and white copies and pass them out to the class. After discussion
let your students know you will be reading a fantasy book as they will
listen for the “OR” sound. Again, you can pass out copies of the
tracking sheet, or project the sheet on your smart board and teach
as a whole group actitivy. You can take the ruby slipper
sorting cards and use them in centers. you can either make a copy
of the recording sheet for each student to bring to centers, or
laminate the copy and have them use dry eraser makers and work
together with their partners.

2. You can drop the book and tracking sheet in a center having one
student read to the other student as they record their findings.
Afterwords they can work on the ruby slipper sort.

****I did a bit of both. My class did a whole group discussion on fantasy, then we recorded a list of our favorite fantasy books. After that I tied in the "OR" sound and passed out the tracking sheet. As I read the story, students wrote down every time they heard the "OR" sound onto their paper. I then dropped the ruby slipper sort and the book into a center and let the kids buddy read to their partner and record the words together.
