Do your students need help with fluency and decoding?
Do you feel like they know their sight words pretty well, but are having trouble decoding words similar to sight words.
I was seeing that in my students, so I decided to make Word Attack.
Word Attack builds fluency and decoding skills by targeting the problem. It helps readers attack words!
Included are 22 word lists that are leveled using guidelines based on The Continuum of Literacy Learning by Fountas and Pinnell.
Each skill has a comprehensive word list and a set of flash cards. Each list is set up for the teacher to use for record keeping on how the students are progressing. The flash cards can be placed on a book ring and used during guided reading groups or practiced as an independent station. Because each set is leveled, you will know what is just right for each of your groups!
There is also one Word Attack Board Game that accompanies skills 1 - 20 Skills 21 and 22 have Spin-A-Word games that each have a recording sheet. Each game is bright and colorful with Karate Themed characters. They first day I brought the Word Attack Board Games to my classroom, some students saw them laying on my desk. They couldn't wait to play!
After students have practiced the flash cards, you can replace the cards with the board game. 32 Games/Activities in all!
4 Word Attack Strategy Sticks
Sometimes it just helps to have a few strategies handy. Since these fit right in your students' hands, that’s just what they’ll have!
I keep a few sets handy in my stations and they really do use them!
