About this FREE Product:
These practice pages are meant to be a spiraling review for phonics and spelling. You will need to have done some initial word work on these phonics skills before using these worksheets.
Every page of this product has directions for students to color. Most of the time, the colors are not what you think they would be. This is to ensure they are reading and not just coloring what things should be colored. It also makes the pages more fun.
You get 6 Free pages from the 80 page product. These 6 pages are from the Bossy R Collection of the product.
On every page, students are given the opportunity to read and follow directions independently. A few pages do not have a word bank, but a key is provided for the pictures.
The Passion Behind the Product:
When my students are working on phonics at their desks, I want the work to be somewhat rigorous and challenging. For me, it is not enough to just identify a picture’s letter sound. I want them to work with the words and use them in meaningful ways like writing, thinking about the spelling and learning lots of new vocabulary in the process. I have included skills such as preposition work, punctuation and capitalization to the worksheets. These pages are a wonderful way to teach vocabulary to English Language Learners and to every other child. Just think about how having a large bank of word knowledge can help students as readers!
One other reason I created these pages was for my students to have something meaningful to do independently while I am doing teacher-work. Like at the beginning and end of the year when I have so many things to do and I need them to work quietly at their desks. Or.. When I must assess every student in my class one by one, leaving the rest of them without meaningful engagement. I’ve tried stations, but they get too loud at the beginning of the year when they haven't been trained properly.
Finally, I created this product as a follow-up product to Phonics Fun for Firsties~Printable No Prep Activities. More Phonics Fun for Firsties goes a little deeper for every sound. I have had lots of excellent feedback on the original Phonics Fun for Firsties, so I hope you’ll check it out!
