26 phonics rules, 52 sight words, and 16 easy readers are included in this book. This program uses a sequential, multi-sensory approach. A variety of language arts activities are provided, including writing, worksheets, games, and flashcards. Topics include the beach, lake, farm, pool, surfing, and more.
Experts recommend a sequential, multi-sensory approach for children with dyslexia. This program is also great for older students with special needs. My teenage son who has Down Syndrome loves the readers in this series! He enjoys reading them in digital format. Once downloaded, he can easily skip through the activities to access the digital books. This series is also great for beginning readers, as it builds a solid foundation of skills and knowledge.
The Primer words are as follows:
all, am, are, at, ate, be, black, brown, but, came, did, do, eat, four, get, good, have, he, into, like, must, new, no, now, on, our, out, please, pretty, ran, ride, saw, say, she, so, soon, that, there, they, this, too, under, want, was, well, went, what, white, who, will, with, yes
The phonics rules covered in this book are found below:
silent e, sh, th, oo, ph, ch, ow, aw, wh, ay, ar, ur, er, ow (long o), or, ee, ir, oa, ea, ou, au, y (long e), oi, oy, y and igh (long i)
Flashcards are located after each reader. These flashcards are of the new Primer sight words presented in the reader and select sentences from the reader.
Each reader also includes two activity sheets. These activity sheets reinforce the phonics rules covered in the reader. Read the instructions aloud to your students. Model sounding out the words by touching the dots. Also model using the arrows as you put all the sounds together to make them into words.
After the activity sheets, you will find 4 pages of phonics flashcards. You may use these flashcards to play memory or go fish.
Sentence Builder Books
Sentence Builder Books develop fine motor skills, along with reading, writing, and spelling. Each reader comes with pages to create a Sentence Builder Book. The first page may be used as the cover. It has the title and lines for the student’s name and date. The next page or two contain all the sentences from the reader. After the sentences, you will find all of the pictures from the reader.
Students cut out the words and pictures. Next, they paste the words onto paper to re-create the sentences. If your students use the included handwriting template, they may also copy the sentences. Students may paste the pictures and/or draw pictures to go with the sentences.
Once complete, students staple the pages together to create the Sentence Builder Book. This is a great project for children to take home and read to their families.
Sight Word Flashcards
At the end of this book, there are some fun sight word flashcards. All 52 Primer sight words are used. These may also be used to play go fish or memory. Just print the entire set twice, so you have matching pairs.
