PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Each card contains a phonics and / or spelling rule presented in accurate terminology in a kid friendly manner. The six syllable types are reviewed and expanded upon, with clear application and Wilson Reading word markings.

Rule cards can be used in conjunction with Fundations level 3 program or can supplement and / or reinforce any structured phonics program. Cards should be copied onto cardstock, cut in half, and hole punched to be placed on an individual 1 inch loose-leaf ring for every student.

• Each student has their own rule card ring:
o To write examples of the rule on the back of the card.

Example of Use for Phonics and Spelling Rules:
The word of the day mimic provided by Fundations level 2 was presented to my students. One student raised her hand and asked, “Why does the word not end with a ck?” I replied, “Why don’t we check the ck rule on our rule cards?” The students hurried to find the card which states, when a /k/ sound follows a single vowel at the end of a one syllable word it is spelled ck. “Oh” responded one student, “it’s only for a one syllable word and mimic has two!” This led us to our new rule of the day, when a multisyllabic words ends with an /ik/ sound it is spelled ic.
