This binder is my “first grade bible” to teach my students to read, spell, and write! I use this during my phonics/ELA time. I use big phonogram cards (which can be found in my shop as well) to display that weeks phonograms. As a class, we then work our way through these pages during the week, or sometimes two weeks! After each page is completed we place them into a “Phonogram Binder” which goes back and forth from home and school each day. I also have the students place the flashcards in a Ziploc bag and then store them in the front pocket of the binder. This helps build an ongoing set of flashcards to build up and review with. The pages in the binder are a valuable tool for parents to stay connected to what we are learning in school, and also as a review over essential building blocks during track breaks, spring break, Christmas break, etc! I also use the materials in this binder as a resource for intervention groups, tutor groups, or even summer school.
The skills taught in this binder will help build fluent readers and spellers since they will be taught “WHY” each word says what it does instead of simply memorizing sight words/flashcards. I have used these phonograms all ten years of teaching first grade. I would be lost without them!
Please let me know if you have any questions! I’d be happy to help! I hope you find this as valuable in the primary grades as I do! Happy learning!
