Phonological awareness is the understanding that spoken language is made up of smaller units. Research indicates that it can be a strong predictor of a child's ability to learn to read.
The 28 short assessments
in the kit are divided into 4 sets of 7 each
, according to the order in which children typically acquire the skills.
The skills include rhyming, blending, segmenting, isolating, and manipulating
parts of words, as well as counting the number of words in a sentence
Use this assessment kit to:
• find who may be at risk for learning to read;
• determine where to begin instruction;
• design your own benchmark tool; or
• monitor students' progress.
