Description

This FREEBIE is a sampler of the phonological awareness curriculum we have created. It is a complete week of curriculum. If you follow our phonological awareness curriculum in your classroom, which requires 15 minutes on Mondays and 10 minutes Tuesday through Friday, you will see amazingly ridiculous phonological awareness growth in your students. This program is tried and true, used in K and first grade classrooms at my school. This curriculum is based all phonological awareness skills identified in the Common Core for ELA. The activities are text-based meaning the words and phrases for the phonological awareness lessons (which we call "listening games") are based on popular read aloud titles from your monthly curricular themes. This program was written around the Kindergarten and First Grade Common Core standards and skills included in the Common Core document, Appendix A, based on phonological awareness research and the general progression of phonological awareness skills in the foundational reading process. This curriculum is also appropriate for Pre-K and anyone working in a teaching capacity with K or 1st grade students and ideal for early literacy among home schoolers. We are so sure you are going to love our phonological awareness curriculum after using it for just one week, that we think you'll come back to purchase the monthly bundles. We have months up so far, but we intend to have all 12 months up by spring of 2013. This FREEBIE based on the read-aloud book, Too Many Toys by David Shannon, is a title from the December bundle. We will try to stay one month ahead of the the curriculum. If you would like to be automatically notified when we add more curriculum, please click FOLLOW ME at the top of this page. We appreciate you looking at this and trying it out.

Also, forgot to mention that once you purchase these lessons, there is NO PREP. You don't even have to print them out if you have an iPad with iBooks, you can simply lead the lessons from your iPad. However, if printing them out on paper is more comfortable for you, great! But there is not cutting, no copying, no stapling, no laminating...just find the book and follow the script...you don't have to think of what to say for each of the 16 skills, we've written all that for you!

Based on the phonological awareness and phonemic awareness standards of the Kindergarten and 1st grade Common Core, Reading Foundational Skills (K.RFS.2, 1.RFS.2) we have identified 16 essential skills:
Counting Spoken Words
