Phil and his friend are back and they are ready to catch some phonemes! This activity provides ample practice with blending two and three phonemes together within a fun fishing activity. Swim “up river” to target segmenting of the same combinations (by flipping through this activity backwards).
CLINICAL TARGET-MASH UP: Thinking about using this product with an older student who still struggles with reading? Don’t hesitate! This serves as excellent practice or a “warm-up” activity for those students in need of greater automaticity with their skills. The fun presentation of phonemes within this fishing activity reduces stress and may eliminate any “shut down” or “learned helplessness” that students who have a long history of struggling with reading experience given text only. Help students gain better awareness of the time required for them to be successful with decoding as you empower them to flip through the pages once they have accurately blended/segmented given guided practice.
