Phonological awareness can be tricky to teach! You can do finger tapping, clapping, arm tapping, but for my population of kids, nothing is better than being SUPER visual!
These phonological awareness sheets allow the child to see the letters broken down with a picture that helps to reinforce its meaning. Each letter becomes its own entity simply by putting a circle around it, thus helping them have quicker letter-sound correspondence. Have them sound out each letter, then sound out each letter as they put a dot, bingo chip, or other manipulative on the letters. Help them blend the sounds together and tell them to use the picture for help to blend the letters and VIOLA!
Dot paint/Bingo chip sheets are are a great resource to help keep your students engaged and interested in learning phonological awareness! Use dot paint or bingo chips to help isolate each individual sound as they mark each letter.
This resource comes with a color version AND a B&W version!
One of my favorite ways to use this B&W version is to have them use bingo chips to cover each letter as they sound it out. Once they get the word correct, they can color the picture that corresponds with the word!
