There are two games to play. The astronaut cards are rhyme identification, the planet cards are same/different auditory discrimination. The game is played the same with both sets of cards. The board game is designed to be used full (2 pages – ends at the moon) or half (first page only – ends at Saturn) depending on the amount of students or time you have. The special cards can be used with both decks; there is a front and back (Saturn) to print double-sided. You can print on cardstock and laminte for extended use. **Important** the board game (both pages) needs to be printed on legal paper; the rest can be printed on letter paper.
You will need a dice to play. To begin, choose which goal you will target. Shuffle the cards with the special cards and place face down in a pile. Have the students choose their game piece (rocket ships) and begin on “Blast off!” On their turn, a student will choose a card and hand it to you or a peer to read. If he/she is correct, they can roll the dice to move. If they are incorrect, they do nothing. If a student draws a special card they get a “free turn” and follow directions on the card.
Have fun playing and learning!!
