This game is fun to use when working with individual children or groups of children. “Beak, No Beak” may be used to focus the child’s listening on the velar “back sound” “K” or be used in remediation to create the opportunity for multiple productions of final “K” in a short game. It can also be sent home as a practice game to reinforce the generalization of the phonological sound pattern of velar (“back sound”) “K.” It can be used with any children including children with speech or language needs, children with autism or children with intellectual disabilities to increase oral language abilities.
This game is convenient for teachers/therapists when traveling between itinerant service locations, for therapists or special education teachers moving between classrooms, or for classroom teachers/therapists/homeschoolers who want organized, easy storage of materials. It is also simple to make copies for students to send home so students may share the song with their family.
