These target word cards can be used when focusing on phonological/articulation goals. Specifically, these cards can be used to focus on remediation of the pattern of postvocalic (final) velar “K,” especially within the cycles approach. Cut these word cards apart, punch a hole in the upper left corner, pick appropriate target words for each child, and place on a word ring for that individual child.
These word cards are ordered by difficulty. A VC target word (eek) may allow a child to produce an accurate “K” whereas a child may not accurately produce “K” in the word “bike” (CVC) due to the inclusion of the prevocalic (initial) consonant “b.” The word “stack” may be a challenge word for a child, appropriate after a child has worked through a few cycle of velar remediation, due to the inclusion of two possible target sound patterns within one target word (“st” and “k’).
Look for therapy/take home velar "K" games. Initial "K" and "G" word cards and games will be posted soon! Thanks for following LK Speech Therapy.
