Product Description
SLP Go-To Phonology Minimal Pairs/Oppositions pack contains minimal contrast pairs for your quick drill speech therapy sessions.

ASHA Research (Baker, 2010; Blache, Parsons, & Humphreys 1981; Weiner, 1981).
Minimal oppositions/pairs therapy uses pairs of words that differ by only one phoneme or single feature. The contrast changes the meaning of the target word, therefore making this a linguistic approach. The goal of minimal oppositions/pairs is to contrast a phoneme present within the child’s phonological system with one NOT present in the child’s phonological system.

This product includes:

Phoneme Cards & Cover Cards

Phoneme cards are provided for select phoneme pairs for receptive/discrimination tasks. Print File: 1 Phoneme & Cover Cards
Cut apart pairs (/t, k/, /d, g/, etc.) and laminate for durability, if desired. Use during discrimination where the child must listen for the identified target sound produced by the clinician.
Cut apart cover cards and laminate for durability, if desired. Use as the top card for each minimal pair deck, if desired.

Word Lists

Print File: 2 Word Lists
Word lists, sorted by process/phoneme contrast are included and can be used for discrimination, reference and data collection, as desired.

Minimal Oppositions/Pairs Cards & Practice Pages

Minimal pair cards are included for therapy drill/practice. Print, cut, and laminate (if desired) minimal pair cards. Punch holes and combine like pairs on a ring (not included) or band/clip together.
Print practice worksheets and place in sheet protectors (if desired) or copy in black and white for home practice. Images are in color only.
Note: All contrasts are NOT included in the same order in pairs. There are 1-2 “foils” in most sets. For example, if the contrast is /t/ vs. /k/, most pairs are in that order; however, there may be a card in the reverse order, as in /k/ vs. /t/. This is to minimize the practice effect of always seeing the same pattern on the left and right sides in pairs. The practice pages are sorted randomly, so detecting the linguistic feature is necessary, not just the pattern of all one sound on the left/right side.

The following targets are included:

Fronting/Backing /t/ vs. /k/: 18 pairs of cards; 3 practice pages with 5 pairs each page.
Fronting/Backing /d/ vs. /g/: 6 pairs of cards; 1 practice page with 5 pairs.
