Fine art photography is that created from the vision of artist as photographer. Traditionally it has stood apart from photojournalism and commercial photography. In recent years, the lines have begun to blur though as fine artist photographers combine facets from all portions of their world into one piece of art.
Until the late 1970s, fine art photography was stuck in several genres and never ventured beyond them. These were: nudes, portraits, and natural landscapes. Those barriers have also fallen so that now any subject matter is open for photographic interpretation.
Fine art photography also now includes staged events which are photographed and conceptual pieces.
Technological advances continue to make a difference as well, with fine artist photographers trying their hands at the latest advances to see what results the new high tech devices might yield.
The best way to study this medium though is to look at the work of those who have been at the forefront of the movement and that is exactly what this presentation does.
