Included in this zip file are two handouts. One handout has the Economist cover at the time of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the other has a before and after photograph of Jessica Alba. The third item is a Ted Talk movie by Erik Johansson about his work with photo-manipulation. An additional movie that is not included but may be worth viewing is a Ted Talk by Becci Manson on the restoration of photographs. I usually have students write their opinions first, get together in small groups to talk, and then have a whole class discussion for each of the separate topics/resources.
Is photomanipulation ethical? When, or for what purposes is it ethical? What can we ethically do? What shouldn't we do? Why?
The Ted Talk movies are free from www.ted.com.
