This Adobe Photoshop Tutorial is a great holiday activity. Students turn a simple photograph of themselves into a mean and nasty Grinch. All students will follow along with the directions to learn how to turn a photograph of President Donald Trump (nothing political here, he was President when I wrote this!) into a Grinch-like character. Follow up activity has students using the same process to turn an image of themselves in a Grinch.
Students learn such Photoshop skills as opening and saving an image, working with layers, copying and pasting external files, modifying layer opacity, using free transform, matching colors between layers, and more. Additionally, students gain experience with tools such as Lasso, Move, Eraser, Quick Selection, and more. This lesson also touches on Photoshop's filters with students using the Liquify and Sharpen filters.
My students absolutely love this project and have even requested additional time to turn family, friends, celebrities, athletes, etc. into the Grinch. This can serve as a great intro to Photoshop lesson, a great refresher or practice exercise, or just a fun holiday assignment that everyone enjoys.
This lesson assumes students have never used Photoshop. Includes instructions for Photoshop CC2017, but can be easily adjusted for use with any version of the software. Instructions are in .doc format and can easily be edited so you can personalize the instructions to meet the needs of your class/course.
Don't bother with poorly written tutorials on the Internet that you can't edit - download, modify, and use this lesson with your students today! Enjoy!
