This unique tutorial has students start with a profile photograph of themselves and then has them use Photoshop to turn that photo into a silhouette. A few adjustments here and there and students end up with a simulated glass vase. The final touch has them inserting some flowers (a flower graphic is included) into their vase to finish the scene. Along the way, students learn how to make selections (specifically with Quick Mask), work with layers, apply a variety of filters, adjust layer styles, and more.
This project teaches some basic Photoshop tools and techniques and results in an interesting and fun final product.
This lesson assumes students have never used Photoshop. Instructions are written for Photoshop CS6, but can be easily adjusted for use with any version of the software. Offered in .doc format to allow you to edit and personalize the instructions to meet the needs of your class/course.
