Pulling the head off one creature and placing it on another one not only makes for an awesome graphic, but it is a fun way to learn many of Photoshop's basic tools. In this lesson, students take the head off a rabbit and place it on the body of a parrot. Along the way students learn such Photoshop tools/techniques as making/modifying selections, resizing/rotating selections, zooming, using the Clone Stamp Tool, adjusting the Brush Tool, using the Blur Tool, adjusting a layer's Levels, and more. After completing the tutorial, students are turned loose on the Internet to find images to create a custom hybrid/impossible animal of their own. Wait until you see what they come up with! This lesson is a student favorite and will quickly become one of yours.
This lesson assumes students have never used Photoshop. Instructions are included for both Photoshop CS3 and CS6, but can be easily adjusted for use with any version of the software. Offered in .docx format to allow you to edit and personalize the instructions to meet the needs of your class/course.
Don't bother with poorly written tutorials on the Internet that you can't edit - download, modify, and use this lesson with your students today! Enjoy!
