Have your students ever struggled with understanding the process of photosynthesis? In this two part lesson, students are introduced to chemical reactions using cupcakes as an analogy. Next, they make models and drawings of the reactants and products. This crucial step provides students with the opportunity to see what the chemical formula really represents. Next, they look at a diagram, answer questions about photosynthesis, and write a short summary paragraph to explain the process. This two day lesson gave my students a clearer and better explanation of what can be a very difficult concept.
