Description
Welcome to the Grammar League, an original band of animated superheroes dedicated to teaching your students the English language in a way that makes sense linguistically!
This PowerPoint presentation introduces your students to the concept of linguistic grammar which breaks down the English language into form and function. Within the Grammar League©, each hero or heroine represents one of the parts of speech and is physically designed to embody the characteristics of that part. They are grounded in the linguistic philosophy of grammar, focusing on form and structure class words, phrasal functions, relationships between words and phrases, and the changeability of form class words.
In a comic book style, and led by Sgt. Prepper and Nounman, this presentation covers the the construct of phrase versus clause as well as the four types of sentences. A student notes sheet is also included in the package so that students may take notes along with the presentation and use as a study guide. A Google Slides version is also included for teachers and students who are learning on the Google Classroom platform.
After students have been introduced to the material, there is an Escape Room activity for them to complete, organized in a Google Slides format, during which they must help Sgt. Prepper and Nounman traverse the wilds of the woods in order to find an ancient language written on the walls of a cave that is guarded by an angry Mama Bear. Students will be asked to solve various language puzzles designed to work as a review of the material throughout the five (and a half) escape room tasks.
Finally, for teachers, we have included an infographic which introduces the basic concepts of linguistic grammar study, provides detailed instructions for the presentation, and offers help for setting up the escape room for your classes.
This package is a great next step after our Sentence Lingo package.
