Studying phrases and clauses? Use mentor sentences from The Hunger Games
to reinforce grammar lessons.
This grammar activity pulls 20 sentences from chapter 18 of The Hunger Games. Students will study and analyze these sentences regarding phrases and clauses. The activity actually is divided into two parts:
⇾ Finding phrases and labeling them. (Included: prepositional, infinitive, gerund, and participial)
⇾ Finding dependent clauses.
This also contains a phrase and clause definition sheet.
I created this mentor sentences activity while reading The Hunger Games
because my students were struggling to differentiate between phrases and clauses before finding the type of sentence. Using mentor sentences helped students understand the differences between phrases and clauses.
I have additional mentor sentences products in this series that cover other grammar lessons. If you plan to purchase several, you may be interested in the bulk, discounted item: Mentor Sentences for The Hunger Games
