This set of five table logic puzzles is geared for 5th to 7th grade students who have studied some geography. I created these puzzles as an extension to any unit study you may be conducting on rivers, lakes, deserts, forests, and mountains. The puzzles can also be used as a jumping off point for preparation in a geography quiz bowl type competition. The puzzles require critical thinking skills to solve, but they also require a minimum of background knowledge.
Please read over the Dear Teacher page for suggestions on how to successfully support students in completing these puzzles. We've highlighted the essential background knolwedge needed for each puzzle. For example, students should know that koalas are native to Australia before attempting to complete the Worldwide Trees puzzle. We've also included additional hints for how you can help students solve the super challenge puzzle.
All of our logic puzzles have been kid-tested and edited for clarity and solve-ability. The two biggest hints you can give kids to help them solve these puzzles is:
(1) Go back and re-read the clues. Sometimes an earlier clue doesn't give you all its information the first time you read it.
(2) Read carefully. In the excitement to solve a puzzle, you can easily miss a key preposition or negative word clue.
Anytime you have a problem, please feel free to post a question or send us an email. We'll be happy to explain the steps for solving the logic puzzle.
